Samuel Martinez, Sr., 80, of New Cumberland, formerly of Oberlin, passed away May 11, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Born December 14, 1938, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Manuel and Manuela Martinez.

Sam worked for Swatara Twp. on the highway crew for 35 years.  He enjoyed playing poker and card games, listening to music, especially Conway Twitty and Spanish music, and NFL football, but he did not like the Phillies! Most importantly, he was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family very much.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dove L. Martinez; 6 sons, Sam (Cathy), Tom (Jeannine), Ted (Ronece), Bob (Patty), Kenny (Monica), and Brian (Jill); 2 daughters, Juanita (Tommy) and Jennifer (Steven); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, John, Dave, Manuel, and Joe; 3 sisters, Rose, Angie, and Margie; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Conway. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 brothers, Moe, Mike, and Russ; a great-granddaughter, Skylar; and his uncle Joey.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, 11:00 am, at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109 and attendees are asked to wear black fedora hats.  Viewing will be from 10-11 am at the funeral home.  Burial at East Harrisburg Cemetery will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Grane Hospice, 1200 Camp Hill Bypass, Ste 205, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Great guy and cousin, to be remembered always.
