Music by The Piano Brothers

Ethel Dorfman, aged 92, passed away on June 28, 2017 in the presence of her family and her Savior at Fellowship Community, Whitehall PA.   She was born and raised in Philadelphia, lived for many years in Grand Island, NY, and then moved to Allentown PA in 1991 to be near her family.

She was a loving wife to the late Edwin Dorfman for 33 years, and a wonderful mother to her children David P. Dorfman (Pamela) of O’Fallon Illinois, and Laura D. Studenroth (John) of Blandon PA.

Ethel was an amazing grandmother to Elizabeth Studenroth of Blandon PA, Robert Dorfman of O’Fallon Illinois, Claire Printz (Matt), of Blandon PA , Christine Thornton (Reuben) of Fleetwood PA, Brian Gardner (Christine) in Japan, and Tamara Leeson (Ted) of Red Oak, NC.   There are also seven great-grandchildren.

Ethel was a graduate of both Penn State and Drexel University.   She loved languages, books, birds, bulldogs, chocolate, and especially music of many types.  She was a music-cataloging librarian for years at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, and enjoyed sharing wonderful books, movies, and music with her family during retirement.  She used her librarian skills to enrich her children’s and grandchildren’s lives in so many special ways.

Ethel organized book sales of quality children’s books at a Grand Island, NY elementary school for years, and also led a Great Books program there. She was a volunteer at the archives of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA in later years.

Ethel went on a long faith pilgrimage, from her young Christian faith of childhood, to a loving skepticism through much of her adult years, to a growing re-discovery of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ in her later years.  She attended worship services faithfully for the past six years.   She loved to sing hymns and to listen to Handel’s Messiah with her family, and passed peacefully into Christ’s presence as we sang “Fairest Lord Jesus,” a hymn she remembered well from her early years.

We rejoice that she is in God’s loving Presence enjoying the music of heaven, and we will always treasure our many wonderful memories of her.

Love you Mom!  Love you Grandma!

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorial donations may be given to the charity of your choice.

My beautiful song bird, may you rest in peace. I know you are sharing that wonderful smile and a beautiful song with our heavenly father. Thank you for touching my life.

I was so blessed to know Ethel for the last few years of her life. ...and I miss her... but I know she is in the presence of the Lord. It is her family and close friends who hurt. I am sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
