Mark Lewis Jones

Mark Lewis Jones, 57, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home on Saturday, February 25 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 20, 1957 in Lakehurst, NJ to Robert L. and the late Betty Jean Loving Jones.

Mark received his Bachelor's degree in Geology from James Madison University. He worked as a mine geologist in New Mexico and Missouri before returning to school where he received his Master's degree from Kent State University. Mark was employed as an engineering geologist with Gannett Fleming, Inc. in Camp Hill, PA since 1986.

Mark loved being outdoors and when he was well, he enjoyed hiking and camping. He loved everything related to mountain climbing, exploration, and Mt. Everest and had always hoped that he too could experience the thrill of climbing to the top of one of the peaks. Mark was very talented at woodcarving and woodworking. Mark was a wonderful and devoted father who loved his children with all his heart. He enjoyed supporting them in all of their activities, especially track and field, football, and scouting.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Wendy Schneider Jones, his daughter Kristen E. Strumsky and husband Drew, his son, Kyle Andrew, his father Robert and wife Dorothy, two sisters Linda Jones-Oleson and Lisa Jones-Haynes, a brother Bruce Jones and four neices and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Jones.

A memorial service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on March 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1423 Orrs Bridge Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Lance Armstrong Foundation at LIVESTRONG.org.
