Charles E. "Ed" Stewart

Charles E. "Ed" Stewart, 84, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Oreland, PA, transitioned into eternal life at home on Saturday, October 5, 2013, with his wife and family by his side.

He was born February 7, 1929, in Philadelphia, son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Mary (Callahan) Stewart.

After high school, Ed joined the Marines and served four years. After that, he joined the Police Department in Philadelphia, where he remained until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg; and a lifetime member of V.F.W. and the NRA. He was an avid gardener, loved feeding and watching the birds, and enjoyed tinkering in his workshop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Miriam (Brooks) Stewart.

Ed leaves to celebrate his life is his loving wife, Alice (Thompson) Stewart; two sons, William of Mechanicsburg, and John of Gilbertsville, three step-sons, Gerald (wife Deb) of Boiling Springs, Tim (companion Denise) of Mechanicsburg, and Jay (wife Kali) of Maine; 13 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving friends.

A memorial service will be held by his family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
