David Nelson Baxter

David Nelson Baxter, 66, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at his home, Tuesday, February 25, 2014, after he lost his battle with cancer. He was the husband of Suzanne R. Baxter of Shermansdale.

Born April 2, 1947, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late John E. and Betty R. (Keenan) Baxter.

David attended Pequea Valley High School before entering the U.S. Army for several years, including a tour in Vietnam. After sustaining two injuries, he received an honorable discharge and was awarded two purple heart medals. He is now reunited with his fellow 25th Infantry Division, C.R.I.P. Platoon members. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post #6704, the North American Hunting Club, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Newport American Legion Post #177. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tiffany A. R. Desiderati of Wormleysburg; his son, David Todd Baxter of Horicon, WI; grandson Thatcher A. Desiderati of Wormleysburg; granddaughter, Madison C. Seitz of Mechanicsburg; his brothers and sisters, Joyce M. Overly of East Petersburg, John E. Baxter II and wife Fran of New Holland, Tanya M. Stauffer and husband Steve of Willow Street, Patrick A. Baxter of Lancaster, B. Kathleen Baxter of NC, and Brian M. Baxter of Lititz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan L. Baxter; and a brother, Roger E. Baxter.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Lower Allen VFW Post #7530 in early April.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 4219 E Trindle Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
