Phyllis C. McNeur, 91, of Newville, PA, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Green Ridge Village. She was born January 30, 1928 in Bradford, PA; a daughter of the late Clifford C. & Mildred (Fox) Croissant. On March 19, 1971 she married Dr. Ronald McNeur. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2005.

Phyllis was a graduate of New Kensington High School, New Kensington, PA, Class of 1945 and went on to earn a B.S. Degree in English from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. She eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh on a scholarship from LBJ’s Great Society.

Her professional career included working as an editor at both Lippincott and The Curtis Publishing Co. where she edited stories and art for Jack & Jill magazine. At different periods in her life, she was a librarian at Western Reserve Academy near Cleveland, OH, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and American Philosophical Society.

She was a faithful member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Carlisle, PA. Phyllis enjoyed the arts and was an avid reader. Favorite pastimes included listening to jazz and classical music, knitting, doing crossword    puzzles and teatime. She traveled worldwide and had many wonderful stories of her adventures. Nothing compared to time spent with family and friends, including her very dear friend, Susan Smith who was a true blue friend to the end. Phyllis will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her brother, William G. Croissant (Patricia “Pat”); sister-in-law, Suzanne Croissant; nieces and nephews, Karen E. Barber (Rodney), Mark England (companion, Tammy Rooker), Jennifer Croissant (David Willits), George Croissant; Janine Pavlik (James), Christopher Croissant (Dawn); great-nephews and great-niece, Seth Barber, Kayden & Kameryn Croissant; great-great-nephew & niece, Rylan & Avery Barber; step-son, John Clark McNeur (Clare); step-grandchildren, Dr. Catherine McNeur (Dan Pelligrini), Josh McNeur, and Luke McNeur (Maki); and step-great-grandchildren, Nora & Julia Pelligrini and Ashley & John McNeur.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Clifford “Larry” Croissant;    sister, Elizabeth England; and brother-in-law, Richard England.

At Phyllis’s request, there will be a private service and interment at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Carlisle, PA.
