Joan (Kassler) Thompson passed away peacefully at the age of 74 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She was born on May 13, 1944 in Bronx, New York to parents Helen (Mako) Kassler and Stephen Kassler. Joan shared a special bond with her siblings despite living in different parts of the country, especially her identical twin sister Jean who she spoke to every day on the phone. She was a 1961 graduate of James Monroe High School in Bronx, NY.

For several years, Joan worked at B. Altman & Company in Manhattan.

Joan met the love of her life, Richard Thompson, at the wedding of a mutual friend in 1960 and they were married on June 6, 1964. They split their time between Brooklyn and Rowland, eventually moving full time to their country home surrounded by the beauty of their private pond.

Throughout her life she was a beloved mother, grandmother, foster mother, and preschool teacher. She found joy in caring for children, watching them grow, and helping them learn.  She loved living in the country among nature, often photographing the local wildlife and scenery. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rowland, for many years singing in the choir and participating in women's group activities. Everyone that knew her knows she was extremely dedicated to her faith in the Lord.
